French terry is a mid-weight knit fabric that can be used for many different types of apparel. It is often used for athletic wear, but is lighter weight than the cotton fleece used to make heavier sweatshirts. French terry is thicker than Jersey because of an extra thread knitted into the fabric, creating a a knit fabric with a smooth face and a looped, slightly textured backside.  Wonderful for lightweight knitwear like sweatshirts, dresses, skirts, and vests.
